Changing global dynamics are making it imperative that U.S. metro areas engage globally for long-term economic success. The Milwaukee Region, through the Milwaukee 7, is currently participating in the Global Cities Initiative (GCI), a joint project of Brookings and JPMorgan Chase, to develop and implement strategies to maximize the benefits of exports and foreign direct investment (FDI) in the region. The GCI program is helping select regions across the U.S. develop global trade and investment plans that reflect 21st century market realities.
Join us to hear Brad McDearman, a nonresident senior fellow with the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program, discuss the importance of global trade and FDI to our region’s economic prosperity. Brad is working closely with the Milwaukee Region to develop a unique, tailored metropolitan global engagement plan for the region. The stakes are significant: Foreign-owned firms already employ 30,000 workers in the Milwaukee metro area and more than 40% of those are in the manufacturing industry.
