Pewaukee, WIS. – The Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington Workforce Development Board (WOW WDB) paid a visit to the Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) auto maintenance class to congratulate them for completing their short-term training.
The WOW WDB awarded a workforce training grant to WCTC to offer a short-term training in automotive maintenance at no cost to young adults. In less than 4 months students learned about auto services fundamentals, brake systems, and steering and suspension systems. Students also received a free starter tool kit.
“We are glad we were able to offer students this opportunity. Last week they received their auto basic maintenance certificate and now have the option to earn additional stackable certificates for the Automotive Technology program at WCTC,” said Mike Shiels, Dean of the School of Applied Technologies at WCTC.
“Students have benefited from the training in many ways by acquiring new skills and sharpening existing ones. It also provided a stepping stone for further education or employment. We will continue to provide the students with career planning and job search assistance,” said Laura Catherman, President for WOW WDB.
Businesses seeking entry level applicants are encourage to contact Cindy Simons at 262.695.7887 or csimons3@wctc.edu to learn more about the students.
