Impending Layoffs Prompt On-Site Job Fair at Lake Country Foods

March 01, 2018
Pewaukee, WIS. – The Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington (WOW) Workforce Development Board conducted a ‘rapid response’ to Lake Country Foods, where approximately 91 jobs will be terminated starting March 16.

In collaboration with Lake Country foods, an on-site job fair was held on February 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM that accommodated the majority of shifts. Businesses in attendance included: Bimbo Bakeries/Brownberry, Create-A-Pack Foods, Inc., D&H Industries, Trace-A-Matic, G&V Machine Company, Inc., Gehl Foods, Generac, Jones Dairy Farm, Johnsonville/Perry Way Foods, Nature’s Path, and Vorteq Coil Finishers, LLC.

“Since the Lake Country Foods closing announcement, our rapid response team was on-site to provide information on unemployment insurance and re-employment services. We also held a resume review and an interviewing skills workshop where over 50 of the affected employees attended,” said Cindy Simons, Operations Manager for the WOW Workforce Development Board. “Yesterday, an onsite job fair was held with 11 businesses to help facilitate employment connections in a timely manner. We had several local businesses such as Bimbo Bakeries and Vorteq Coil Finishers and others coming from Germantown, Mequon and Fort Atkinson like Gehl Foods, Nature’s Path, and Jones Dairy Farm.”

The affected employees expressed that the job fair was well organized, the companies were friendly, and it was definitely a benefit to having it. The rapid response team scheduled numerous appointments with employees and will be following up with businesses that scheduled interviews.
