National Donut Day by Salvation Army is Friday, June 2nd

June 01, 2017
Colorful history of the donut goes back to WWI

(Waukesha) . . .  In tribute to World War-I “Donut Lassies,” who introduced the humble donut treat to American taste buds, the Waukesha Salvation Army will be giving away thousands of free Entenmann’s ® brand donuts at both entrances to the Waukesha Woodman’s store, on Friday, June 2, 2017.
Woodman’s is located at 1600 East Main Street, near Highway-164. The promotion will run from 9:00am until supplies of donuts are exhausted.
“Waukesha County residents are invited to stop and visit with staff of the local Corps, and receive their free donuts at either the Main or the Pick-up entrance of the Woodman’s store,” explained Waukesha Major Nelson De La Vergne.
“Those who stop near the Pick-up entrance are invited to tour the Waukesha Corp’s Emergency Canteen Truck, which will be parked there for viewing,” De La Vergne said. The Canteen Truck was most recently put into service in Fall of 2016 during a near 20-hour search for a missing autistic child who was eventually found safe.
“It’s a mobile serving kitchen that supports area police, fire, EMS, volunteers and emergency government officials,” the Major explained, “when a tornado or other natural disaster, a major fire, a search effort or other emergency or disaster occurs.”                                                                                    (MORE)
