NEW CAMPAIGN AIMS TO EDUCATE RESIDENTS ABOUT WHAT THEY CAN SAFELY PUT IN THEIR RECYCLING BINS

(WAUKESHA, WI) – In an effort to increase recycling rates and improve the quality of materials entering the recycling facility, Waukesha County is asking residents to Recycle Right. The county is focusing on this educational recycling campaign this summer to improve the economic and environmental sustainability of the recycling program.
 
“Residents should know that positive things happen when they recycle right,” said Analiese Smith, Recycling & Solid Waste Supervisor for Waukesha County. “Keeping non-recyclable and dangerous items out of curbside recycling containers not only keeps facility workers safe, it also translates into measurable benefits for residents because it saves money through reduced landfill disposal costs.”
 
The Recycle Right campaign will focus on helping residents get the right items in their curbside bins. An informational “10 Ways to Recycle Right” guide, a social media presence, short recycle right video clips, and the free Waukesha County Recycles mobile app will be part of the month-long campaign.
 
“We feel that education is the key to reducing contamination,” Smith said. “Recycling Right does matter. Eliminating unacceptable items, such as hoses, plastic bags, and scrap metals can ensure that materials are properly managed without risks to work safety or costly equipment damage.”
