Ryan Braun and SURG Restaurant Group team up with Froedtert for new charitable fund

May 08, 2013
Brookfield- Milwaukee Brewers’ Left Fielder Ryan Braun, together with SURG Restaurant Group and The Froedtert Hospital Foundation, announce a benefit to launch a new fund created to help children in our community in time of crisis.

The inaugural benefit will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 8-Twelve MVP Bar and Grill, 17800 W. Bluemound Rd. in Brookfield. Braun has generously agreed to offer his support to appear and to meet attendees. Braun said, “To be a part of such a great cause with the goal to help try and change the lives of our youth in a positive light are an honor and a privilege. I encourage everyone to try and help us embrace this important issue so we can make a difference in our community.”

Whether it is to provide a hand to hold or a simple stuffed toy for a child to snuggle in an emergency room, the SURG Restaurant Group Fund for Children, established in April 2013, is a partnership between SURG Restaurant Group and The Froedtert Hospital Foundation.

Grants from the fund will be used for the purchase of toys, videos, games and other needs for children in emergency rooms or waiting rooms at Froedtert. The fund also may be used to support the education of staff working with children at the hospital. The SURG Restaurant Group Fund is for all children touched by crisis – those who receive services including pediatric radiation oncology, or those waiting for news about loved ones in the hospital’s family center.

As long-time community partners, SURG restaurants have contributed to many charities helping those in crisis, most recently with a fundraiser at 8-Twelve in Brookfield which benefitted the children of the victims of the Azana Spa shooting tragedy. In November 2012, SURG Restaurant Group formed their own foundation, SURG Cares, LLC. This benefit through their foundation is the first of many that SURG has planned to benefit children.

“We were so inspired when we saw the community turn out in force to help the children of the Azana Spa tragedy, that we decided to formalize a philanthropic organization of our own to benefit children,” Polaski said. “It was the most diverse group of people offering their support, a truly moving experience.”

Shaikh added, “Having an umbrella foundation for the donations raised from our generous community allows us to make an impact on the lives of the littlest victims of tragedy.”

Event Details: Tickets are $150 per person, and include food stations and beverages. SURG will also be awarding prizes throughout the evening including items donated by Ryan Braun, SURG Restaurant Group and a Grand Prize weekend get away in a penthouse donated by Delton Grand Resort and Spa in the Wisconsin Dells. Ryan Braun will be in attendance to offer his support. SURG requests no autographs be solicited.
