Attorney Daniel J. Balk III is an associate in the Health Law Section in the Milwaukee office. Balk focuses his practice on transactional, regulatory, compliance and HIPAA issues for health care entities.
He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, State Bar of Wisconsin and Milwaukee Bar Association. He received a J.D., cum laude, from Marquette University Law School and a B.A. from Marquette University.
Attorney Jacob J. Curtis is a shareholder in the Government Law Group in the Milwaukee office. Prior to joining von Briesen, Curtis served as the Chief Legal Counsel at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, where he led a staff of 28 professionals and managed a budget of over $2 million. He was also an Associate Counsel at the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, one of Wisconsin’s leading policy and legal research centers, and a policy advisor for Wisconsin State Senator Duey Stroebel.
He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bar Association and Federalist Society. Curtis received a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin and a B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Attorney Matthew R. McGovern is a shareholder and chair of the Energy and Clean Technology Section in the Milwaukee office. Before joining von Briesen, McGovern was the government affairs liaison for Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele. Prior to serving Milwaukee County, McGovern was a senior advisor at the United States Department of Energy (DOE), in the Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis.
McGovern is a member of the State Bars of Wisconsin, California and South Dakota. He serves on the Conservation Committee for the Village of Shorewood. He is a member of the Energy Bar Association and the American Constitution Society. McGovern received a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
Attorney Samuel G. Robertson is an associate in the Business Practice Group in the Madison office. Robertson focuses his practice on Estate Planning, Trust and Estate Administration and general business matters. Prior to joining von Briesen, Robertson spent several years working in Trust and Estate Administration at financial institutions. Robertson received a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin.
Attorney Peter J. Walsh is a shareholder in the Business Practice Group in the Waukesha office. Walsh focuses his practice on estate and asset protection planning and inheritance litigation. Walsh is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® for Elder Law. Walsh served as the Chair of the Elder Law Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin and as a member of the Wisconsin Attorney General’s Taskforce for the Reduction of Elder Abuse.
He is a member of the State Bars of Wisconsin, Illinois and Florida. Walsh received a LL.M. Taxation from the University of Florida, J.D. from DePaul University and a B.A. from Marquette University.
