WAUKESHA COUNTY AGING AND DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER COMMEMORATES WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY

September 04, 2018
(OCONOMOWOC, WI) – The Oconomowoc Dementia Friendly Coalition will be holding a Caregiver Resource Fair to provide awareness and education about dementia, as well as resources available to those caring for a loved one with dementia. The event will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 2:00 – 5:00pm at ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, 791 Summit Avenue, Oconomowoc, WI.

In Waukesha County, there are more than 8,500 individuals that have a diagnosis of dementia, with at least 75% living in their own homes. The need for community support to recognize, communicate and provide resources to individuals with dementia, as well as their caregivers, is essential in building a Dementia Friendly Community. A community that is dementia friendly shows a high level of public awareness and understanding of dementia; is a place where an individual with dementia can live a good life, as independently as possible and be a part of their community; where persons with dementia are met with understanding and given support when necessary.

More than 25 agencies will provide information and resources for caregiver’s of those with memory loss. A variety of free health screenings including: vision, hearing, bone density and blood pressure will be offered during the event. Caregivers and the care-person, attending together, may want to participate in the onsite Memory Café provided from 2:30-4:30pm. While registration is recommended, walk-ins are welcome. To register, visit ProHealthCare.org/Classes or call (262) 928-2745.
