Waukesha County Technical College to host It Takes a Team learning disabilities state conference Oct
The conference is open to administrators, educators, higher education professionals, college students, parents of children with learning disabilities and others.
“Participants won’t want to miss this learning and networking event where they will gain tips and best practice advice on dealing with challenges faced in education today, from experts in the field,” said Sue Koprowski, instructional development specialist at WCTC.
The conference will feature a welcome address by Barb Van Haren, director of special education for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), followed by a general session featuring a presentation by Ciel Carse, a Statewide Personnel Development Grant – Professional Learning Communities coach. Carse, who has more than 35 years of experience working in special education teaching, coaching and leadership roles, will present, Co-planning, Co-serving, Co-teaching – Using Collaboration to Support Inclusive Environments. She will address critical components of an inclusive learner-centered environment and how the DPI co-teaching toolkit supports educators to meet the needs of every learner.
Following the general session, participants can attend breakout sessions on topics including:
Those leading the breakout sessions include education and learning disability consultants from the DPI, program support teachers and coordinators, assistive technology specialists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists.
In addition, WCTC Foundations of Teacher Education program students will be collecting donations of nonperishable food items for the College’s food pantry, Campus Cupboard, to benefit WCTC students and their families in need. The students will also be assisting with the conference.
After the conference, the WDLD will conduct a membership meeting, which will also include an awards presentation and election of new board members; the Wisconsin Council for Exceptional Children will also hold a membership meeting following the conference. Both organizations are a part of the National Council for Exceptional Education.

Registration fees are $25 in advance, $20 for students (with ID) and $35 onsite, which includes workshop, continental breakfast and snacks.
