WCTC To Host Elizabeth Smart Tuesday, April 30

PEWAUKEE, Wis. (Wednesday, April 24, 2019) -- To kick off the first event of the Waukesha County Technical College Speaker Series, and to recognize April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, WCTC is hosting Elizabeth Smart on Tuesday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Building S (gymnasium) on the main Pewaukee Campus, 800 Main Street, Pewaukee, Wis.
 
WCTC’s Student Government Association (SGA) and the Office of Compliance and Equity have partnered to sponsor this sold-out event.
 
Smart will share her story of being a survivor of child abduction and how she has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs and national legislation.
 
PLEASE NOTE:
 
  • A news conference is planned from 11 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in Room S-129, Building S.
  • Media are permitted to take B-roll, but are not allowed to use any audio from the presentation.
  • Reporters are to refrain from asking questions about kidnapper Wanda Barzee’s release from prison; Smart will not address this topic.
  • Smart will comment on the Jayme Closs kidnapping case that took place in Wisconsin in fall 2018. (Incidentally, the special “Smart Justice: The Jayme Closs Case,” will air on Lifetime April 27 and feature interviews by Smart.)
