Workforce Development, Inc. Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2018

Pewaukee, WI. – In support of the $5 million Department of Labor grant to the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) to fund the Wisconsin Apprenticeship Growth and Enhancement Strategies (WAGE$) initiative, WOW Workforce Development, Inc. hosted a business information session to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2018 on November 15th.
 
Building on the national support to expand apprenticeships, the business information session included a message about the statewide WAGE$ movement that includes expanded, new or upcoming apprenticeship programs in advanced manufacturing, information technology and healthcare. Other topics included available training funds to support apprentices, overview of youth and registered apprenticeships, including the key facts and top misconceptions surrounding apprenticeships
The lineup of presenters included:
 
  • Beth Norris, Operations Coordinator, Workforce Development Center
  • Keyvn Radcliffe, DWD Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards
  • Jessie Johnson, WAGE$ Liaison, WOW Workforce Development, Inc.
  • Richard Badger, Apprenticeship Training Representative, Jefferson & Waukesha Counties
  • Nathan Zorn, Project Specialist Youth Apprenticeship & Dual Credit Center for Waukesha County Technical College – Early College Opportunities

They were joined by 16 businesses from various sectors.

“Apprenticeships are an important way for people to enter the labor market and develop a career, as well as helping current employees move up the ladder and gain new skills that in return help businesses remain competitive,” said Cindy Simons, President of WOW Workforce Development, Inc. “When they work well they play a major part in filling skills gaps and shortages, supporting social mobility and helping to improve productivity.”

 

The event was presented in partnership with the WOW Workforce Development Board, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards, and the Workforce Development Center. Funding provided by the Department of Labor Wisconsin Apprenticeship Growth and Enhancement Strategies (WAGE$) grant.
